Supreme Court Ramlila verdict may be reviewed : Advani

BJP leader A.K. Advani today indicated that the Supreme Court verdiction over Ramlila Ground police crackdown shall be reconsidered on the issue of protestors being denied permission by the authorities to peacefully agitate.
The judgement of the Supreme Court lays down a landmark law in as much as it upholds the right to protest as a fundamental right of speech and to assemble.
He said while quoting his party colleague Arun Jaitley in his latest blog that it however shakes the foundation of the fundamental right by laying down a highly doubtful proposition that once the right to protest is denied, the protester must meekly accept the denial or run of contributory negligence to the police oppression.
Jaitley had last week released to the media a insightful analysis of the court's judgement while complimenting the judge's opinion to uphold the citizen's righ to protest peacefully against any government decision they disagrees with.
The Supreme Court had taken suo moto cognisance of media reports showing the brutuality of police action against the sleeping followers of Ramdev at Ramlila Maidan on the midnight of June 4-5 last year during his anti-corruption campaign.
Ramdev had alleged that the police action was carried out on the instructions of their political masters and further demanded action against all people who carried out this crackdown.
The Delhi police had however claimed that Ramdev had instigated his followers to involve in violence, forcing the police to react at that time of the night.
