Senior IPS officer, Jaffer Sait suspended

Senior IPS Officer and former Tamil Nadu Intelliegence Chief M S Jaffer Sait  was today suspended by the government, a week after he and some others came under a vigilance probe in connection with a land allotment scam.

Sait, considered to have wielded significant clout as ADGP in the previous DMK regime, was thrown out of the high-profile assignment and posted as Special Officer at Mandapam Refugees Camp after the AIADMK government take over.

He was one of the officers who had come under the scanner of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on July 26th, when the agency raided the premises of Sait and some others in connection with the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) scam that had surfaced during the previous DMK regime.

A case has been filed against him and several others under various sections of the IPC and under the Prevention of Corruption Act for offences including criminal conspiracy and cheating. Party Chief M Karunanidhi, the then Chief Minister, had denied any wrongdoing in the discretionary quota of allotment.
