As per an official report, a plane carrying 32 persons crashed in the wilds of Papua New Guinea on Thursday.
Accident Investigation Commission Spokesman Sid O Toole said that the Airlines PNG Dash 8 aircraft crashed wwhile flying from Lae to Madang on the South Pacific island nation's north coast.
Local villagers told the government owned National Broadcasting Commission that there were four survivors.
Mr. O Toole said that the police and ambulance had reached the crash site on the spot and the investigators would travel there Friday.
Australian Broadcasting Corp. television cited Madang residents as saying that there was a violent storm in the area at the time of the crash.
The Australian Press Agency was also quoted as saying that most of the passengers were parents travelling to attend their children's university ceremony in Madang this weekend.
