Denouncing the Union Government's decision to go ahead with the Lokpal Bill draft. Team Anna Hazare burnt the copies of the bill which was tabled in Parliament on Thursday.
A senior advocate of the Patna High Court, Ramkant Sharma said that the propsed bill has many drawbacks and will lose a signifcant opportunity if it goes through in its present form.
A group of about 250 campaigners of India Against Corruption (IAC) movement gathered on the high court premises and organised an awareness campaign. They also shouted slogans in favour of the Jan Lokpal Bill – the draft bill submitted by the Team Anna to the Government. Later, they gathered at the Ambedkar statute and burnt around a dozen copies of the Lokpal Bill.
Dayashakar Prasad another campaigner said that the government wants to hoodwink us by craeting an ineffective institutuion of Ombudsman. It is better not to have such an institution than to have an ineffective one.
The campaign to garner support for Anna Hazare's plan to launch an indefinite hunger strike from August 16 in New Delhi as has received good response in Patna. As August 16 draws near, the government continues to be stubborn. Many referendums conducted in the country have showed overwhelming support to Anna Hazare.
Anna supporters in Bihar will further intensify their campaign in the run-up to August 16. Sanjay Datta , media in-charge of IAC said that they are ready to undergo all kinds of oppression, harrasement and cruelty. But will not budge even an inch on our demand for a strong Lokpal bill in the country.
On Saturday, Anna supporters will organise a discussion on Government Lokpal Bill v. Jan Lokpal Bill at a private school in AG Colony.
