Sheila Dikshit
The Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today stated under the fire following CAG report indicating her and her Government for irregularities in Common Wealth Games projects that if any wrong doing is found by the Public Accounts Committee looking into the issue, then action would be taken against the same.
Dikshit also stated that the report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) tabled in the Parliament yesterday is to be looked into by the Public Accounts Committee which is free to call any official for questioning.
To the reporters it was said by Dikshit that the process is in such a manner that the CAG report would be referred to the PAC which can call any concerned authorities or officer for the purpose of questioning. She stated that to the committee her Government would send any official called for questioning. She confirmed to send them and also clearly stated that if it is found any wrong doing has taken place, and then they are equipped to take action. According to the Chief Minister, who has come under the intense pressure over CAG's questioning of the way in which the Games projects were handled, the priority before the Government at that time was to conduct a successful event.
Also she said that there might have been instances when over-expenditure may have taken place because the priority was to complete all the projects on time. She undoubtedly stated that if anything wrong has been committed, then the Public Accounts Committee is there to take action.
For understanding the issue and standing behind her, the party leaders were thanked by Dikshit.
After the CAG report was tabled in the Parliament yesterday, the opposition has intensified the pressure. Several irregularities in the project were pointed out by the report including street lighting and street scaping, undertaken by the Government in the run up to the games in the month of October last year.
