The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday approved  the comprehensive education policy to resolve problems and issues of teachers in government and government aided-schools in the state. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy tod reporters after a Cabinet meeeting that under the package, the government would incur an expenditure of Rs.264 crore, problems of 10,000 teachers who had not been receiving salaries  for the past few years, either due to fall in the number of students in schools or unrecognised appointments. He said that the government will from now on recognise the appointment of 2,920 teachers who were working without salaries in aided schools. They will get their salaries from the date of joining the service.

He added that similarly, more than 4500 teachers who lost jobs due to fall in number of students would be reinstated. Chandy said that the package could be implemented only by the merging the same with the Central Government schemes, which could see state expenditure could come down to Rs. 6.88 crore per year.

The new package, he said, would ensure private aided-school managements does not make appointments or make new appointments without prior government sanction.
