Gary Dobson and David Norris to stand trial for murder of Stephen Lawrence

The murder of Stephan Lawrence was yesterday denied by two men, more than 18 years after his death.

After pleading to be not guilty at the Old Bailey in London, Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris,34, were ordered to stand trial in the month of November.

These two men were alleged to have been involved in the group of white youths, who stabbed the 18year old to death, which took place at a bus stop in Eltham, South East London, in the year of 1993.

In order to Dobson and Norris appear via a video link from Belmarsh prison, Stephen's mother, Doreen, 58 years, sat in the well of the court.

For the per-trial hearing in the month of September, both of them will appear in person at the Old Bailey.

It was held by the Appeal Court judges that, in spite of being formerly accused in 1996 when the Lawrences brought a private prosecution Dobinson could stand trial

The case against Dobson under the changes to Double jeopardy riles which permit for a fresh trial if new and compelling evidence were submitted to the court, were possible to be reconstructed by the lawyers.

In the trial of 1996, Norris was not a suspect and not being prosecuted under the 2003 double jeopardy laws.

It was in the month of September, last year, both these men were remanded in custody.

During the month of May, it was heard by the Appeal Cort that, Stephen was targeted by a group of white youths because of his skin color.

According to the judges, in order to justify the cancellation of Dobson's former release and to go to trial for a second time, there was sufficient reliable and substantial new evidence.

The new evidence relating to a grey bomber jacket and a mulch-coloured Cardigan is alleged to be closely connecting Dobison to the murder.
