Rewati Raman Singh made accused in cash-for-vote case

Samajwadi Party leader Rewati Raman Singh has been made a accused in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam by a Delhi High Court which observed that there was sufficient materials against him for the charges of criminal conspiracy, though the Delhi Police gave a clean chit to him.
The court which had issued summons to Mr. Singh asking him to appear before the court on November 3 noted that prime facie it appears that the accused was part and parcel and an important link of the alleged criminal conspiracy.
Special Judge Sangita Dhingra in her order said that there was sufficient evidence against Raman Singh to prove that she was involved in the alleged criminal conspiracy.
The Delhi Police had on October 14 told the court that there was no evidence till now to show that Raman Singh's involvement in the scam.
The court, however took cognisance of the offence after taking into account the records and the statements made by three co-accused fromer BJP MP's- Faggan Singh, Mahabir Singh and sitting MP Ashok Argal.
The judge said that the material placed on court and the signed statement of three MP's was sufficient to show Raman Singh was the person who led the three MP's and later on arranged a meeting with Amar Singh promising that their interests would be taken care of.
Public Prosecutor, Rajiv Mohan had told the court that on the basis of the evidence available on record, it cannot be said that Mr. Singh was part of the alleged conspiracy to bribe parliamentarians to secure their support during the 2008 trust vote sought by the UPA-I government and so he has not been named in the charge sheet.
Regarding defencecounsel's allegation that Raman Singh had met with BJP MP's and was in constant touch with them during the trust vote on July 22, 2008, the prosecutor had said meeting with BJP MP's was not prohibited.
