Well dressed and begging: 43 women from Rajasthan detained


Many of the girls and women very well dressed whom at first glance seems to be like college going girls attired in jeans, t-shirts, capris etc. but many of these 43 girls and women from Rajasthan created a stir during the past two days in the town of Latur, about 250 km from Aurangabad.
These women were found accosting people on the roads, preferably men, begging for Rs.50 or more.
The woman, who had turned the city lodge their temporary home , told people for their begging as their poverty I their home town and stated that they were going hungry and were in trouble in their home town and had no other option other than begging in the city.
The police picked up all the 43 women on Monday evening for questioning with respect to this matter.
The Latur Superintendent of police B G Gaikar told the reporters that they will contact the police in Rajasthan or wherever they have come from to trace their antecedents.  They were also on the verge to find out whether they were on the police record.
He  also added to it that it was strange to find that a large number of women claiming from a single place were begging on the streets, also some elderly women were in this group dressed up in jeans and tops.
Inspector P S Kakade of the MIDC police station said the women arrived in Latur on Sunday and took up temporary residence at Deepak Lodge.
Kakade said that they did not see any male companion with these women, though there were a few children among the lot. Women wearing jeans appearing well off and narrating a sorry tale while begging caused suspicion about their intentions.
On being questioned, the women said they were in Ahmedabad before coming to Latur. So far they have been no complaints of any crimes giant them. They were only doing begging and disturbing the convenience of local people. Kakade reportedly stated that they are trying to trace their background and will send them back to their own place within a shorter span.
