The Delhi High Court on Friday imposed a cost of Rs. 3,000 on Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for failing to file a reply in a defamation suit which she had filed against BJP leader Vijender Gupta.
Justice Kailash Ghambir had filed this cost upon the Minister as her counsel sought more time to file reply to Gupta's contention questioning the basis of the defamation suit. Giving one last opportunity to Dikshit, the judge then posted the matter to March 15.
The Chief Minister had filed the suit against Gupta for allegedly erecting hoardings across the city accusing her government of corruption in the determination of new power tariff in involvement with private discoms.
Dikshit had demanded a token Re. 1 as damages in her suit. She also alleged that BJP under Gupta's leadership erected hoardings in June 2010, which said her government had openly looted crores for rupees.
