Spurned lover repeatedly stabs girl before public in West Bengal

Another incident of violence has come up, wherein a 17-year-old student was allegedly stabbed by a youth on Saturday after she rejected his repeated marriage proposals. The girl has now been admitted to a hospital suffering from serious injuries while the police serach is going on so as to catch the 22-year-old youth.

The incident took place around 6:30 am near Kankinara Baazar in North 24 parganas. The girl had gone to fetch water from a roadside tap. She was standing in the queu when Chottu, the youth, allegedly teased her. She shouted at him and told him to behave himself, but Chottu prolonged. Several others were standing in the queu, but none of them spoke up.

This boosted Chottu's courage and he allegedly proposed marriage to the girl. Thinking she had had enough, she asked Chottu to leave at once, but at that Chottu allegedly took out a knife and stabbed her repeatedly. As the knife stuck her in the shoulder, her back and hands, the girl started screaming for help.

As more people rushed into the spot, Chottu fled away. The girl was taken to Bhatpara state General Hospital, where her body was sealed with nine stiches. Her condition is still critical. The girl, is reported to be a class XI student, who had an examination at school on Saturday.

Locals alleged that the youth, who lives two houses away from the girls house, had been teasing her for the past two weeks. He had been repeatedly proposing her for marriage, which she consistently turned down. Later on, a complaint was lodged at Jagaddal police station, but Chottu has gone into hiding.

The girl's mother said that her father, a school teacher, has been out of station for some days.  The girl's mother added that, she came to know only by Friday that the youth used to tease her daughter, and soon after she came to know about it, she went into the youth's home and complained about it and asked his family to ensure that he didn't tease her in future. According to her, this seemed to be the sole reason for provoking him to kill her daughter.

The girl said from her hospital bed that the youth would tease her whenever she was on her way to school. She said that, she had warned him several times, but he did not pay any heed. Rather he continued to tease her, whenever he saw her on the streets. Later on Saturday morning, whe she went to fetch water from the roadside tap, he started teasing him. She shouted at him, but before she could do anything, he suddenly took out the knife and stabbed her with the knife.

Police said they have received a complaint and are conducting raids to catch the youth. Prima facie, they said, the youth scorred back after the girl rejected his marriage proposals.
