Music maestro Ustad Sultan Khan dies

The singer was always best known for his sarangi recitals, where he played Hindustani Classical music. He was honored with Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honor, in the year 2010. He has also lent his voice to many famous songs such as Albela sajan Aayo from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, along with Kavita Krishnamurthy and Shankar Mahadevan. He has also experimented in the Indi-Pop genre Piya Basanti Re, which he sang with singer Chitra, which continues to be hit even today.

He has won numerous musical awards including, twice, the Sangeet Natya Academy Award, also known as the President's Award, as well as the Gold Medalist Award of Maharashtra and the American Academy of Artists Award in the year 1998.

He was also one of the members of the Indian fusion group Tabla Beat Science, with Zakir Hussain and Bill Laswell.
