Dey murder: Chhota Rajan gave lead to cop about shooters

The police sources reported that, the details of the shooters of the assassinated journalist were provided gangster Chhota Rajan himself, to the police.

It was stated by several officers who were part of the murder probe that, this is primarily done by Rajan in order to ensure that his men would not be shot dead by the police encounters.

The police sources informed that, immediately after J Dey aws shot dead by motor-cycle borne accused on 11th of June 2011, the entire force started hunting for the clues and inserted pressure on big gangsters to provide them with a lead. Reportedly the police endangered that; they would have to act sternly against the gangs in the city if the underworld dons failed to help them.

The sources stated that this message was previously received by Rajan and hence the names of some of his men were revealed by him in order to ensure that, they were not killed in encounters during the hunt for J Day's killers. Again the gangsters specified the condition to the officials.

Later on, the crime branch acted upon these details and the shooters were traced to different locations.

However, it was claimed by the property cell and Unit VI of crime branch, the two units which were credited with solving the killing that, they had not received any tips from Rajan. as per the informations provided by the officials of other wings, Rajan wanted the members of his gang to be inside prisons, were they could be safe as well as strengthen his influence. No senior member of the gang was lodged inside the prison after his close associate; D. K. Rao was released from the jail.

Satish Kalia, a member who is a part of Rajan gang for a number of years and who claimed to have fired on J Dey, was in the squad that Rajan sent to Pakistan to kill underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. After his arrest, Kalia showed his face to the media and ensured that an important role would be played by him in the trial.
