Police said that four girls, including a minor, were rescued from a brothel in a joint operation by both Meghalaya and Assam Police in Silchar town of Assam.
The four girls from Meghalaya were brought here by a trafficker, whose name the police refused to disclose, and sold to Gita Sinha and Suku Debnath, who run a brothel near Fatak Bazar, the largest wholesale and retail market in the southern part of the state.
The Meghalaya Police, acting on a tip-off, informed their Assam counterparts and rescued the four.
The trafficker was absconding but the police arrested Sinha and Debnath.
