The Delhi High Court today granted 5 days parole to Manu Sharma, who is serving life term for the murder of Jessica Lall murder case. The Delhi High Court granted parole to Manu Sharma in order for him to attend his brother's wedding and related functions which is taking place this month.
While granting parole to Sharma, the police has put forth the condition wherein he is not allowed to visit nightclubs.
Justice Shali said that, the petitioner (Sharma) is allowed to be released on parole for five days but he shall not visit any nightclubs nor discotheque. Also directed Sharma to surrender before the Tihar jail Superintendent soon after the parole period expires.
Senior counsel, Ram Jethmalani , appearing for the petitioner (Sharma), had earlier submitted before the court the schedule for the marriage ceremonies which includes pre-marriage ceremonies of "ladies sangeet" on November 21 at Chandigarh, marriage to be held at Karnal on November 22 and reception in Ambala on November 24.
The parole comes after the police on Monday softened its stand against Sharma. Though the Delhi Police opposed the parole in its affidavit, the standing counsel for the police, Pawan Sharma, told the High Court during Monday's hearing that if the court deems it fit, Sharma may be allowed to participate in the wedding, provided he gives an undertaking that he will not leave Ambala and Karnal, where the two functions related to the marriage are scheduled to be held.
Manu Sharma was previously released on parole from Tihar Jail in the year 2009 to be with his sick mother. He was in between spotted in a discotheque in New Delhi and was also involved in a scuffle on the night of November 6 after an extension of his parole.
Following the national roar, he was forced to put an early end to his parole, surrender and return to Tihar Jail four days later.
