India is planning to test fire on Tuesday its avanced nuclear-cable Agni-II missile which has a strike range of around 3,000km.
The new missile is reported to be an advancement of the existing Agni-2, which has a strike range of around 2,000km. the first test of the missile had failed during the last December owing to some technical problems.
The Agni-II Prime has been developed by making certain changes in the existing Agni-2 missile and will have the same size of boosters provided it has an extended range of 1,000km.
Defence Ministry officials said that they are planning to test-fire Agni-II missile by November 15 from a test range in Orissa.
They added that since it is powered by solid fuel propellants, the missile is said to have a better navigational system and greater accuracy in comparison to the already existing Agni-2.
Newer technologies have been incorporated while making this missile to make it lighter in weight and the weapon system has also been provided with greater thrust.
India has developed a number of variants of the Agni Missile series under the Integrated Missile Development Programme (IMDP) with different striking ranges since 80's.
The sources said that it is also planning to develop Agni-5 and carry out its testing-fire by the end of this year.
Agni-5 will be able to strike targets in the range of 5,000km and will make India join the league of nations with such capabilities.
