Sohrabuddin fake encounter case: key witness escapes from police custody

A key witness of the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, has escaped from the Gujarat police custody near Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Sylvester Daniel, an accomplice of Sohrabuddin, fled on Friday night while being brought back from a court appearance in Udaipur in Rajasthan by a police party from Vadodara. The incident is reported to have taken place when the police had gone out to have snacks. He was jailed in the Vadodara jail.
Sylvester is believed to be holding some crucial evidences in connection with the alleged fake encounter case on November 26, 2005 and the subsequent murder of his wife Kausarbi.
The cops contended that Sylvester escaped from the police custody while they were getting the jeep, in which they were travelling, repaired. This version is not being brought by many including the CBI which suspects collusion of the escorting police party in facilitating Sylvester's escape.
The Vadodara police wrote to the CBI admitting to strong suspicion that the escorting cops helped Sylvester escape. The letter also says that there is a  disagreement in statements by the escorting police and the Rajasthan Police's investigation, further adding that the Rajasthan police is free to take action against those cops.
The Vadodara Police sent a team for enquiry and will submit a report at the earliest.
Sylvester, in a statement to the CBI last year, claimed that in 2004, Sohrabuddin had told him that Popular Builders in Vadodara had to be fired upon at the behest of Abhay Chudasama, a senior Gujarat IPS officer, now in jail for the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin.
