The final match of cricket world cup 2011 is not only a match for team India and the 121 crore Indians. The final match proposed to be held at Mumbai will be a great event of this year. Indian team successfully holding the world number 1 ranking in test cricket will have to achieve the first rank in one day international. The hours to come by the prayer of more than 121 crore people and dream of India to achieve the title of world cup 2011 winners. There is no worries about the fitness and injuries. The eleven representatives of India will fight for the cup with the lions of Sri Lanka. There was much more celebrations when team lead by Kapil Dev won the trophy in June 25 1983 in which India scored 183 runs in the final match against West Indies and become the part of History. The cricket team under the constancy of Kpil Dev, the great bowler of India was a bowling team. But the things all were changed. That was 60 over match and the totals of 180 - 200 - 2020 were great scores that time. But now the picture is entirely different with 50 over matches. Good percentage of team scores will be above 250 - 300 runs. Even the scores of 350 runs were also chased by all most all teams.
After the world cup of 1983, team India have been trying their best to bring the world cup again to India. In 2003 team under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly reached till the final platform and failed to defeat Australian team. There was much more controversies and criticisms after the match of 2003 in which India won the toss and allowed Australia to bat first. There was several mistakes from Indian bowling side in that match. The very first ball bowled by Zahir Khan was even harmful for India. The 37 extra runs were given by Indian fielders. We lost the catch of Ricky Ponting when he was in the score of 17. Later he made his best century in that match and built up a unreachable score for Indian team. Ponting scored 140 runs and remained not out. Our star bowlers Zahir Khan bowled 7 overs and given 67 runs. J. Sreenath delivered 10 overs and given 87 runs. Ashish Nehra was much decent in that match giving 57 runs from his 10 overs when compared to other two fast bowlers. The extras 37 includes 16 wides and 7 no balls. That means 23 more deliveries were given by Indian team free of cost. 23 free runs 23 additional balls and runs made in additional balls. We can not blame Australia in getting a total of 359 runs from 323 balls bowled. That final day was much more shameful for India if it is analyzed. The top scorer was Ricky Ponting with 140 runs; next was DR Martyn with 88 runs; Adam Gilchrist made 57 runs and the third highest scorer was Hyden with 37 runs. Yes the other 37 runs were given by Indian as extra runs. Anybody who is willing to do simple analysis on that score card can easily understand that extra runs given and extra balls delivered made the target for India a Herculean task.
